Marathon Cooking
1.Hilda Bassey Effiong, a young Nigerian chef from
Nsit Ubium LGA in Akwa Ibom State, owns a food brand in Lagos named "My
Food by Hilda."
2.She will be engaging in a non-stop cooking
marathon for four consecutive days.
3.During the cooking marathon, she is required to
remain standing and is not allowed to sit.
4.Hilda is prohibited from consuming coffee,
stimulants, or energy drinks to artificially enhance her energy and physical
strength while cooking.
5.However, she is allowed to eat food, drink water
or fruit juice, and take glucose.
6.The cooking marathon is taking place at Amore
Gardens in Lekki, Lagos State, Nigeria.
7.Hilda cooks continuously without taking any
breaks for sleep, spanning from morning to night for four consecutive nights.
8.She is only permitted a brief five-minute rest
per hour, meaning she can take an hour-long break within every twelve hours.
9.According to some sources, she also receives a
30-minute break every six hours. During this break, she can rest, use the
restroom, and receive medical assessments from the available medical team.
10.All the food she cooks is shared with the
attendees at the venue free of charge; she is not selling the food.
11.Hilda cooks multiple meals simultaneously and
has the freedom to cook any meal she desires. There are no restrictions on the
types of meals she can cook. The World Record title focuses on cooking within a
specific time frame, not the specific dishes cooked. As long as she is cooking,
she is on track.
12.Every meal cooked and served is meticulously
recorded. By the time you read this, she has already cooked over 115 meals,
with nearly 3,000 portions or possibly more.
13.The cooking marathon began on Thursday and is
expected to be completed by Monday, May 15th, 2023, in the evening, as per the
target time frame.
14.Hilda aims to break the current record held by
Indian chef Lata Tandon, who cooked continuously for 87 hours and 45 minutes in
2019. Hilda plans to cook for 96 hours, exceeding the previous record by an
additional 9 hours, thus becoming the first person to achieve such a marathon
cooking feat.
15.She has named her cooking project
"Cook-a-thon," a term derived from the word "marathon."
16.Despite appearing visibly exhausted, Hilda is
receiving enthusiastic support from those around her, boosting her morale. They
are present with her throughout the 24/7 cooking process, even during
nighttime.
17.Many of the food items, ingredients, utensils, and
other necessities for this project are provided by her sponsors. Thus, the
expenses for this project are not solely covered by Hilda or her food brand.
18.Uber, one of Hilda's partners, is offering a 40%
discount on rides to the venue for those who wish to join and cheer her on.
19.Hilda's mother is also a chef and runs a food
brand called "Calabar Pot."
